Officials are worried that these keys may give people the chance to steal drugs and EMT supplies, but a FDNY spokesman quelled the worry by noting that EMS stations are hardly ever unmanned. He also said that the narcotics that some key copiers might desire are behind further closed doors that the key does not work for. In any event, these keys are out there, and waiting to be used, whether on EMT stations or for access to the Subway.

EMS gear isn’t cheap, but Dixie Supply Co. offers some of the lowest prices around on emergency medical supplies. Even if one of these universal keys does find access into your EMS gear cupboard (which doesn’t seem very likely) you can rest assured that with Dixie, you’ll be okay. From first aid kits to immobilization and extrication gear, the in-house manufacturing of these products is what allows them to be priced so low. So even if you need to restock your EMT supplies, come on down to Dixie, where you can get them for the best prices around.

Emergency Medical Supplies Are No Good Without Knowledge

For the average citizen, no matter how much money you spend on emergency medical supplies, they can be useless in the event of an accident or disaster unless you know how to properly use them. If you truly want to be prepared, you need the knowledge and skills, in addition to the emt supplies. Unfortunately, the average person doesn’t have access to the detailed training of EMT professionals, so they must do their own research or get training.

First aid training is always a good idea. Anyone who has faced a disaster knows that you need to act quickly—every second counts. You can’t act quickly unless you know what you’re doing. And if you don’t know what you’re doing you could panic, which doesn’t help anyone. So if you’re interested in being prepared in the event of a disaster, you should enroll in a first aid training course and do independent research through training books available online and at bookstores.

There are also many video tutorials online that provide a great learning base for proper first aid techniques.

Here is a video about how to use a pillow as a splint. But this live-saving device can be incredibly dangerous if the user is improperly trained or not trained at all. Defibrillator training is a crucial way to ensure the effectiveness of the device and the safety of the patient. Although the defibrillator is most commonly used by trained medical professionals, they are available for the use of non-medical personnel also, which leaves room for accidents and incorrect use that can cost someone their life.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be an EMS gear expert, to be able to operate a defibrillator correctly. You just need proper training, which many well-known and reputable organizations have made available. The American Heart Association offers advanced cardiac life support defibrillator training to more than 250,000 people annually. In addition, the Red Cross also has defibrillator training available, and has trained more than 8.5 million annually.

These organizations are committed to proper training for individuals to handle cardiac incidents with confidence in their knowledge and training ability. Every second counts, so delay or hesitation can be detrimental to the patient.

Crucial EMS Gear: Medical Supply Bags

In the world of emergency medical care, it’s important that you have the right supplies. Quality supplies ensure that the person is your care is getting optimal treatment, from the best equipment available. In addition to having quality emergency medical supplies, you need a proper place to store them that keeps them safe and sterile. It needs to be a place that is easily accessible, so portability is a must. It is also beneficial to have your EMT supplies stored in a place that keeps them organized.

Medical bags are the perfect place to store your EMS gear. There is a wide variety of styles and sizes of bags, so it’s best to find one that you will feel comfortable using and transporting. If you prefer your medical supply bag in more of a traditional back pack style, the StatPacks G1 Perfusion Pack could be what you need. It has two main compartments, three external pockets and can be worn as a back pack, a slide sling, or carried by hand. Another great choice would be the DixiGear First Responder Bag. This bag has a removable padded liner with adjustable Velcro dividers, so you can customize the fit of your equipment in up to 10 different compartments.

First Aid Kits Are Crucial Emergency Medical Supplies

Having the right emergency medical supplies in the event of an accident goes far beyond having band-aids and some ointment—you need some serious tools to ensure safety, and in the most extreme situations, survival.

Whether you are an EMT or not, it’s always beneficial to have a high-grade first aid kit, fully stocked with all the essentials. The insertion of the ETT is called intubation. While this process can be difficult at times, a laryngoscope can be used to aid intubation. The attendant’s fingers can also be used, which is called “digital intubation.” The desired region of the tub should be about 2 centimeters above the carina, or the bifurcation of the lungs. After this it is connected to an oxygen source or a self-inflating bag.

EMT supplies like the ETT are used most often during cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or for general anesthesia, when non invasive breathing methods are not practical or efficient.

Sir Ivan Magill was the inventor of this EMS gear, the need for which came from soldiers in WWI with extreme facial injuries and the inability to deliver anesthesia with a mask. Today most tracheotomies are oral, however nasotracheal intubation is also common, especially during mouth surgeries. This protects the patient from their own blood, vomitus, or any other regurgitation. The ETT is one of the most important EMT supplies. Sure, it can be kind of stressful at times, but it is rewarding rushing to a scene where someone is in dire need of emergency medical supplies and helping them stay alive on the way to the hospital. Not only does it make me feel good to save lives, but the uncertainty of my job keeps me on my toes. I can’t imagine what it would be like to sit in a cubicle all day. That’s why I view my work less as work and more like helping those who are in need.

I’ve seen some crazy things in my time, but we’re always prepared for the worst. That’s why our EMT supplies are so important – they help us in everything we do. We couldn’t work without EMS gear, just like EMS gear wouldn’t get any use without us. The final result is a blend of teamwork not just with the people who are in the ambulance, but with our emergency medical supplies to use exactly what is appropriate for each patient. I love my job and wouldn’t trade it in for anything in the world. So if any of you are thinking about medicine think about being an EMT.

EMT Supplies Are Good to Have for All Kinds of Pain

No matter where you work, no place is immune to emergency accidents. Sure some places are more prone to seeing injury than others, but ultimately, it’s better to be safe than sorry. It’s a good idea to have a bag of emergency medical supplies, so that for minor accidents like a bruise or a burn, treatment is readily available in the form of instant cold compress paks. If there occurs something more serious, like if someone goes into cardiac arrest, or breaks a finger, then it’s probably time to call in the professionals.

It’s a good idea to evaluate your work environment to determine how much or what kind of EMS gear you may need. For example, if you work in an office, a basic first aid kit will probably suffice for treating most injuries. If you work in a gym, let’s say, you would probably want to go with an industrial first aid kit because you will be seeing injuries more diverse and frequently.

Or if you want to keep your own stash of emergency medical supplies in your purse or in your back pocket, you’ll be surprised at how often you use it to treat scrapes burns and hurts. Why neglect your safety? Feel comfortable and don’t settle for improper treatment of pain, even if it is minor.

Dixie EMS: Emergency Medical Supplies and More

Fully stocked with over 50,000 medical supplies, Dixie EMS has the emergency medical supplies you need and the selection you want. It's a good idea to have emergency medical supplies at home as a precautionary measure.

A common first aid EMS gear pack for wounds and burns should have a disinfectant, cotton wipes, adhesive bandages, patch bandages, an antibiotic ointment and a painkiller.

You need all of these items at hand because the best way to approach a minor injury is to first clean the wound with running water (if available) and wipe with cotton using disinfectant. Antibiotic ointment goes on and around the wound, preferably with a cotton-tipped applicator or else with washed/disinfected hands.

In case of a minor burn, cool the burn as soon as possible with water, wipe clean with cotton and apply the ointment, followed by a bandage that covers the burn completely.

When traveling on the road, be sure to have EMT supplies and medicine for common ailments like cold, fever, acidity, motion sickness, allergy etc, in addition to what is listed above.

More lavish EMS gear include items like special bandages for knuckles, fingers, elbows and knees, trauma pads and eye pads, tweezers, safety pins and latex gloves. I mean, just look at what’s going on down in Haiti and all the amazing things these guys for them... Well, it also seems that rescue teams also have one of the scariest jobs in the world! From saving people from earthquakes and building collapses to saving hikers that are lost to saving people in car accidents - rescue teams need to keep up with the best emergency medical supplies to do their work, including EMS gear and EMT supplies.

Some of the gear a rescue team or rescue crew needs are things like backboards, cervical collars, head immobilizers, splits and extrication devices. Some of the more personal items also include options like coats, pants, helmets, shoes and protective ensembles. Now, if you’re unsure what guidelines you should be following or what products to buy, it's always a good idea to follow the NFPA Guidelines which is going to give you all the standard products and supplies you need for your specific job. All you have to do is scroll down the list, like NFPA 402: guide for aircraft rescue and firefighting operations and you can see what items you should have for that specific position or job.

Most all of the items you need as an Emergency or Healthcare worker can easily be found on our website including gear for EMS, EMT, Rescue Workers, Doctors, and Hospitals. I mean, teaching people to save lives – what’s more noble than that? A lot of regular every day people freak out when it comes to things like CPR or choking, so really, you are doing a service all in itself and we thank you!

When you teach or join a CPR class you are actually going to be learning how to give CPR - don't worry, this won't be done on a real person! Instead, the CPR teacher will provide a "Manikin". Nope, that's not a misprint!

With the help of manikins, a student can learn how to do CPR by actually seeing where and how to pinch the nose and how to breathe into the manikin and “resuscitate” it. These manikins also come in an array of shapes, colors and styles as well.

These EMS gear products and EMT supplies are an amazing way to really teach regular every day people how to save a life, but also how to do it the right way. Oftentimes if you aren't trained in how to do MTM or CPR you can actually end up hurting the victim rather than helping them, so in order to facilitate the best teaching devices possible – remember that emergency medical supplies such as Manikins are perfect for CPR classes.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dixieems.blogspot.com/2010/02/do-you-run-cpr-class-do-you-need-emt.html' title='Do You Run A CPR Class? It’s called the ABC's if first aid care. There are also two subcategories for the ABC's - responsive and unresponsive patients. The A stands for Airway. If there is an unconscious patient the first priority is the airway and blockage usually concludes of things such as tongue, vomit or a foreign body or object. At a basic level, the airway can be opened simply by manual movement of the head using various techniques such as the head tilt or chin lift. The B stands for Breathing.

After the patients airway is opened, you need to make sure they are breathing. Usually breath rates are between 12 and 30 breath per minute. One of the things to consider if the patient is not breathing is to try CPR or other protocols depending on the person who is doing the rescuing. If the person is breathing, they should then be placed in a recovery position (lateral recumbent position), and you should wait with them until help comes. The last letter in our acronym stands for Circulation, it's important to make sure you observe the color of the patient’s hands and fingers.

It's also important that you do regular pulse checks on the patient and assess regularity and strength! There is also another acronym for responders in defibrillation called ABCD and in the UK they use this acronym as well, but theirs is AcBCDEEEFG for patient assessment. To find first aid kids, emergency medical supplies, EMT supplies and EMS gear please visit www.DixieEMS.com

What Preventive Measures Can I Do To Keep My Child From Choking?

Every single year over 3,000 people die from choking incidents - most of which are children. A lot of children also choke on one specific food - hot dogs. This is an incredibly scary statistic, I know because I have totally been there and it is frightening. So how exactly can you lower this rate, especially when it comes to your own children? First and foremost I think as a parent it's important that you have some knowledge about CPR. In fact, you should go take a class or two and at least learn the basics.

This could ultimately save your child's life, but if you don't know how to do CPR correctly you could also end up hurting them as well! It's also important to have some emergency medical supplies in your home such as a first aid kit or manual. The manuals are nice because you can learn HOW to get something out of the windpipe correctly. Some of these manuals are like Airplane manuals, they show you directions plus illustrations which are always helpful! The next thing you can do to keep your child from choking, is to cut up their food in small pieces - especially hot dogs.

In fact, it's probably a good idea if you don't let them have this food until they are a little older. Also, be sure to follow warning labels on toys and other household products such as; keep this and all small parts away from children 3 and under. And PLEASE keep ALL plastic bags away from ALL children. I cannot tell you how many times I've been out in a store and have seen a parent LET a child have a plastic bag and my heart just sinks. This is not safe nor will it ever be safe for a child! If possible, and you are a business, I would even go as far as suggesting that you have several different first aid kits on each of the floors of the building. You never know when one of these can come in hand. Whether you work as a professional in a building pushing papers all day long or you work as a Chef cutting food and cooking food all day - accidents do happen. As for where to store these kits, it really depends on how big the vicinity is.

If it's a small house you could get away with having one in the bathroom and one in the garage. If it's an office building, you should have at least one on every floor, but again, if at all possible on the north and south sides of the building or the east and west sides of the building. The important thing is to keep it in a centralized location that anyone will be able to use any time they need to use it. By the way you can also keep these kits in other places as well besides your home and or office such as your car, in a schoolhouse classroom, bathrooms, on a boat or other water vehicle or in a boat house, in a workshop and on a school playground.

While you can only go so far concerning these kits and what they can do, most small home and office accidents can be aided to with these kits. To see some of our EMS gear, EMT supplies and emergency medical supplies including First Aid Kits, please take a look at www.DixieEMS.com

EMS Gear Tips: What Items Should You Have In Your First Aid Kit?

This seems to be one of the most important questions when it comes to first aid kits in both the home and the office. Regular kits often come in durable plastic boxes, fabric pouches or in wall mounted consoles. The kind of container will vary depending on purpose. Most first aid kits will come with things such as band-aids, bandages, tweezers, gloves, adhesive tape, antiseptic, gauze pads, and saline. But again, dependent on what kind of a kit you get, different items will be included. For example, in a First Responder First Aid Kits this is going to include pretty much everything and anything you could need in an emergency situation.

These ones are commonly used for emergency organizations and people when it comes to EMS gear and EMT supplies. It's going to include every kind of emergency medical supplies you can think of from a penlight and a bite stick to splits and belt cutters. On the other hand, you might find a specialized or custom kit that would be perfect for homes with children, offices in danger zones such as wildfires or earth quakes, pet first aid kits, fanny pack kits for those times you are away from home such as on a hike or on vacation somewhere and even a sports kit designed for athletic applications.

Personally, I think every home and every business should have at least ONE basic first aid kit. But more specifically if you are in a profession where you do have a lot of accidents that happen, it's really important you have more than a basic kit and that you have more than one available. Also, make sure you always refill these kits when necessary!

Emergency Medical Supplies Such As Wound Care Could Save Your Life Or Someone Else's!

Like a Chef armed with their best knives and an apron, an emergency medical team is going to be equipped with certain kinds of emergency medical supplies that are designed in order to save your life or someone else's life. These items can also be utilized to keep them safe as well. For a regular person such as yourself, this can somewhat be scary to think about. I still get chills every time I hear a fire engine or ambulance!

But after you really sit down and think about it and realize what these items can be used to do - I think you will begin to get over your fears and realize that the EMT supplies and EMS gear that emergency professionals have isn't something to be scared of. In fact, it's something that you should learn to appreciate! These are people that are in this line of work because they enjoy the people they work with and saving people from some pretty situations.

A lot of the items and emergency medical supplies that they use are actually quite common and could be the same thing that you have right now in your own first aid kit at home. For example, some of the most common items, especially in Home First Aid kits, are things such as wound care. These specialty wound care products are specifically meant to treat for burns and cuts, but can also be used for drainage, absorbing blood, composite dressings, etc.

You have everything from compression bandages and foam dressings to Hydrocolloid Alginate dressings and Sodium Chloride dressings available to you. Some of these are going to simply be used to "cover" up and aid in the compression of the area where the wound is. While others will actually be used to keep the pain at a minimal degree.

A Blog about the different kinds of Emergency Vehicles?

As with all other professionals that are emergency teams, each one is going to have its own specialized vehicle along for its own specific reasons. In the same way that you wouldn't drive a hatchback in the Indy 500, you wouldn't ride a police bicycle to a fire! There are many emergency vehicles to list, but a few different ones are bomb disposal, SWAT vehicles, mountain rescue, search and rescue, hazardous waste materials and police motorcycles!

Some emergency response vehicles are likely to be equipped with EMS gear, EMT supplies or emergency medical supplies such as sonic and visible warning devices such lights and sirens which are designed placed on the vehicle in order to ease along their motility through traffic to reach their specific "landing-place", and to provide protection on the location. Also, depending on certain laws in certain cities and states, you will oftentimes find that local laws that are required for other non-emergency vehicles are going to be "waved off" when it comes to emergency vehicles.

For example, a lot of times you will see an ambulance or fire rescue zooming through red lights! This allowed in most cases! You will also find that there are oftentimes rules in which YOU the civilian must follow when it comes to an emergency vehicle. For instance, in some states if you see or hear an emergency vehicle behind you its required that you pull over on the side of the road, while in other states pulling over for something like this is simply noted as being courteous!

Household Emergency Medical Supplies For Your Family

Accidents happen - its common sense. But in order to keep yourself safe it's always a good idea to keep a first aid kit in your house along with other necessary emergency medical supplies. Some of the supplies you are going to be packing into your first aid kit are even going to be the same things that any EMT supplies kit or EMS gear team would carry. These are emergency medical supplies that could end up saving YOUR life or someone around you! Obviously some of these items are no-brainers such as gauze, bandages and scissors, but there may be some other products you haven't thought of or you think you might not need such as a CPR kit.

This might seem scary, but once you take a few classes on how to do CPR (which is something you will definitely need to do), you will probably end up being really thankful you decided to put a CPR kit inside your home. More than 3000 people die from choking every single year - most of these are children. We all know kids will put almost anything in their mouths, but they also can choke on other things as well such as food that wasn't properly cut up or chewed. Frankly, I would hope that every parent would put aside their frightening thoughts about what could happen, and instead be prepared.

Better to be safe than sorry, especially when it could have been helped in the first place! Between a first aid kit and a CPR kit, this should at least put your mind to rest a little more than it was before! Also, always make sure to keep any and all of your kits fully stocked! If you live in earthquake states or zones you can also get an earthquake kit. If you live in a section of the country where forest fires often happen, you can get a forest fire evac kit. There is always a solution, you just need to do a little research or visit us at www.DixieEMS.com today!

The Most Basic EMS Gear and EMT Supplies For Your First Aid Kit

When it comes to any profession, there are going to be basic supplies and gear you will need to have in order to do your job. In the case of EMS gear or EMT supplies there are a few basic emergency medical supplies you should have on hand - both professionally and personally. A few of the basics are not only going to be for the safety of others, but yourself as well. For example, while a flashlight is a terrific thing to have in order to illuminate objects in the dark, this can also be used as a weapon if the time had come where you needed it.

Now when it comes to first aid kits you should have some VERY basic wound preparation supplies such as absorbent compress dressings, adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipe packets, pair of non-latex gloves, hydro-cortisone ointment packets and scissors. The non-latex gloves are of the utmost importance! This is going to obviously keep your hands clean and free of chemicals, blood and other liquids.

The reason for non-latex is sort of obvious, some people are actually allergic to the chemicals in latex, so it's best to just be safe and use non-latex instead. Also, some people that wear latex oftentimes get rashes and such on their hands. This is not only the basics for an EMS or EMT, but as suggested by the Red Cross it's also items that a household should have in their basic first aid kit as well! Hey, if it's good enough for the professionals, it's good enough for me!

For more information, visit us at www.DixieEMS.com

How Can I Find The Best Priced EMT & EMS Gear?

If you are in the position of being an EMT, EMS, Law Enforcement or Fire Rescue profession, you might have come to the conclusion that your equipment is expensive to buy and replace. However, what if I could tell you a way to save money on the same products and the same quality assurance? Would you try it? A lot of people nowadays shop online, it's becoming the bloodline of a lot of businesses because they can offer great products to people such as yourself at a nice price and they can ship to practically anyone world-wide.

This is what we online business owners call the Global Marketplace, and because a lot of businesses are doing this, you can actually benefit from it. It doesn't matter where you live, what your job is, what EMS gear, EMT supplies and emergency medical supplies you use or are looking for - you can essentially find them all online for a great low price. For instance, in a regular store that you have been shopping at for years you may have bought a Streamlight Survivor flashlight for a few hundred dollars.

This is usually a personal item and isn't included with the job you do. The Streamlight is one of the best flashlights, but hey, everything that has a chance to break can break! When it comes to something important such as a Streamlight, you need to make sure or rather want to make sure you have one on you at all times during your job, right? Well what if your $700 flashlight breaks. Are you really going to spend another $700? Well you might, but that doesn't mean you have to! At www.DixieEMS.com we offer you that same light for a fraction of the price. Were talking under $100! Same quality, same product, same brand - different price!

Quality EMS Gear At A Price You Can Afford!

When it comes to any professional job or service, you need to purchase specific products that are going to help you do your job better. When it comes to EMS & EMT professionals, these products usually cost a lot of money.

You could try to cut back, but these items are fundamentally essential to not only your job, but to save people and help people out. So when it comes to things like EMS gear, EMT supplies and emergency medical supplies you can't really "skimp out" on what you want.

One thing you can do is visit www.DixieEMS.com for all your medical and emergency medicine supplies. They have everything you need and at a price you really desire. I've searched their site on a few occasions and they always offered better products, better quality, and lower prices than a specialty offline store!

It’s pretty surprising I guess, but it's really no wonder why shopping online is so popular, considering they can offer the same items as an offline store, but with a smaller price tag. They still have all the top name brands - so you can still GET all your favorites brands and products, but they just cost less! Sounds like a good deal!

Do You Need To Find Emergency Medical Supplies & Gear For Your Job?

EMS and EMT workers have one of the most important jobs in the world, and I can totally appreciate that! People look for you, at you, and up to you every single day. I imagine it's a really hard job to do every single day, but I have known a few EMT people and they really love their jobs! One thing they are always complaining about though is the supplies and gear they always have to buy! I've seen prices for some of this stuff in specialty stores and it is NOT inexpensive stuff!

Most people that are an EMT or in the EMS service industry will most likely buy their EMS gear, EMT supplies and emergency medical supplies from a licensed store offline. But let's be honest here, haven't you ever wondered if you could pay less for a high quality product? In all honesty you absolutely can. All you need is to look online at www.DixieEMS.com.

Thousands of products available to you at the click of a mouse, amazing prices, and a lot of choices to choose from! Not only does it give you a sense of savings, but it also allows you to view many more products than you ever would be able to in the offline world. If you did try to find all the different products and brands in offline stores, it could take you hours on end! Forget that! Shopping online is all about speed, efficiency and ease! You can certainly find just about anything you are looking for or in need of such as EMS gear, EMT supplies and emergency medical supplies - you just have to know where to look!

Honestly, the first thing I would suggest is to visit Dixie EMS. They can answer all of your EMS & EMT needs with every popular brand name, every product, and very good prices. These guys buy their products from a wholesaler or get it at wholesale prices, which is a lot different from an offline store. Because of this, Dixie EMS can offer you much better prices for the items you really do need!

A lot of these EMS gear, EMT supplies and emergency medical supplies are made specifically for this kind of work - this means they are going to be more functional, more durable, and more sufficient for your needs! This is a factor that you have to take into consideration when it comes to your important job, so make sure you pick products of the utmost quality and design!

Get some Kolling sensation into your bandage

There are many different methods to relieve pain and reduce swelling, but there is one way that I believe is the best and most effective. It is Koldcare Koldwrap and it combines the valuable use of a bandage and the wonders of a soothing cool sensation.

The bandage is made of an exclusive formulation of gelled water and elastic foam material. When the two combined and the bandage is wrapped around an injured area, the gel-imbedded material evaporates water to effectively cool the injury. The cooling effect will stay for hours and there are no dangers that are associated with ice application such as tissue damage from excessive cold.

This wrap can even be refrigerated for extra coolness effect and can ease pain and swelling due to sprains, bruises, insect bites, nosebleeds, toothaches, muscle cramps, migraine headaches, arthritis, tendonitis, and carpal tunnel.

The benefits of Koldwrap bandage line:

Wraps completely around the injured area to effectively cool from all sides

Can be worn directly against the skin

Conforms to all body contours

Not wet or messy

Nontoxic and nonirritant

Cools by evaporation

Can be refrigerated for enhanced cooling

Cost-effective to use

Reusable

Recommended by athletic trainers, physicians and physical therapists

Gel is 96% water

Time-released cooling effect lasts for hours

For more information, visit us at www.DixieEMS.com

When in need for emergency reference there is only one place to turn to

This is a handy little device I always carry around with me, it’s called the Pedi-Wheel and it’s a convenient pocket reference tool that actually puts the most vital pediatric data at my fingertips. Feels real - right down to the fingerprint

I remember that back in the day, when my wife was a training paramedic, she used to come back home with blue arms and swollen veins. Everyone thought she was being abused… well, she was sort of. You see, the students had to practice venipuncture on each other, and it takes some time until you know how to find a vein.

But today, when my wife teaches her students, she uses an injection training arm. It’s simple and easy to use and it’s the ideal way to teach venipuncture and injection techniques without taking unnecessary risks. Before the training arm, you had to find willing volunteers (!) but now you can avoid patient injury and liability, while the students are learning new procedures.
She brought one of these back home, she always wanted to teach me her stuff and man this thing feels real – right down the fingerprint! It is an easy way to remember the basic steps a rescuer needs to go through when checking a victim.

ABC of First Aid:

A stands for Airway
B stands for Breathing
C for Circulations

As we mentioned, these are the most important indicators to check. If the victim is responsive, try and speak to speak and see if he or she can answer so you’d know the airway is clear. If the airway is blocked, roll the victim on his back while safely securing the head. You can then clear his airway by opening the mouth.

When the victim is breathing but unconscious, you want to roll him on the side while securing the neck and head, and open the mouth in order to make sure that the airway will not be blocked by the tongue. If the victim is unconscious put your hand or ear near his mouth and check for breathing. You can also place a small mirror to see breath. If there are no signs of breathing, don’t wait for the ambulance and start performing CPR. C for circulation means checking the victim’s pulse.

It’s always recommended to buy first aid kit and keep it at hand. So which one should you rub on? Actually, skin professional tend to divide sunscreen lotions into two groups – the ones that are under SPF 50 and the ones that are above. The first category is for people with normal skin, and the second category is for people who are more likely to develop skin cancer, or people with light skin who get burned easily.

When we go to the beach, or take a day trip, we tend to apply only a very thin lotion of sunblock, which means that if we use a little amount of SPF 15 we actually use something more like SPF 3 – that is the reason why using SPF 30 to 50 is recommended by skin specialists. When buying a sunscreen, make sure it has a UVA protection and try to apply it generously, about 30 minuets before you leave home, so it will have time to sink in. Repeat every two hours without skipping sensitive areas like the ears, feet and scalp!

If you want to learn more, take a look at this video and share it with your family and friends:

At www.dixieEms.com you can find a large selection of sunscreens and burn-revilers, all at discount prices. Dixie EMS has been providing EMS corporations, state agencies, city agencies and hospitals with quality emergency medical products and supplies for over 30 years. When the crucial time comes, you should be prepared and at have the basic knowledge – which can help you save a life! CPR - Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation - is a basic manual method to keep the heart pumping in an emergency situation.

CPR should be preformed when a victim is unconscious and doesn’t have a pulse, or does not breathe. Before you start, make sure that someone calls 911. If you are alone and the victim is an adult, call 911 first. If it is a child, you should perform CPR for two minutes and call the emergency services. In most cases, a 911 representative can help you with CPR instructions.

In order to clear the victim’s airway, tilt the head back. Pinch the victim’s nose and make sure no air will escape during the procedure.

Using a CPR kit mask, cover the victims mouth with yours and breathe twice, making sure that the chest is rising. Push down fast, at a rate of 100 beats/minute for 30 times, and repeat the artificial breathing. Continue with two breathes and 30 pumps until the victim starts to breath and help arrives.

If the victim is a child use one hand and only two fingers if performing CPR on an infant.

Keeping a CPR kit is always important. Keeping up with a fever is a basic requirement and it should be done properly. It may seem simple; it only takes a thermometer and a couple of minuets, but just like any other technology in the field, there are some interesting developments in thermometry. The mercury-based thermometers that our moms used during our childhood were found to be too risky and mercury was replaced with other heat sensitive materials or digital electronic thermometers. Although temperatures are still taken in the old fashioned way (oral, rectal or under the arm) some new thermometers only require a gentle stroke on the forehead. The TemporalScanner Thermometer for example, is a totally non-invasive system with advanced infrared technology providing maximum ease of use with quick, consistently accurate measurements. It captures naturally emitted heat from the skin above the temporal artery 1,000 times a second, and then gives a reading of the most accurate temperature.

If you are interested to learn more about the newest thermometry technology available, check out Dixie EMS Supply. We can answer all your of your diagnostic equipment and medical supply needs, with the lowest prices in the industry and a quick turnaround time. As a responsible individual you probably brought along the first-aid kit you have at home. Let’s say your friend just tripped and he is bleeding. No problem! You take that kit and find out that it has a small bandage, an aspirin tablet and tweezers. Now what? You’ll probably end the hike, carry him on your back to the nearest drugstore and buy some gauze pads, antibiotic ointment and head back home.

At Dixie Medical Supplies we know the importance of having a first-aid kit available in that hiking backpack, around the house, in the car, or in the classroom. But do you keep the same emergency kit in the car and in the house? No. Every setting requires its own unique first-aid kit. That is the reason why Dixie EMS provides special customized emergency medical supplies and first aid kits.

For that trip you’ll probably need the Ever Ready Basic Kit which carries all the first aid essentials you need. The kit comes in a hard plastic box, small enough to fit a backpack, yet still holds over 100 items. You should try and carry the compact Ever Ready Pocket Kit in your purse, just in case. Make sure that you have the Ever Ready Auto Kit in the car – it even contains a tire inflator spray if it’s the car that needs emergency medical assistant.
